Emerald (Feicui ) Valley – a river trekking route for beginners

The Emerald Valley stream offers a gorgeous river tracing opportunity perfect for beginners. Crystal clear waters flow through massive marble boulders and past waterfalls into a perfect natural swimming pool. The entrance of Emerald Valley is actually an old tunnel. A short hike through the tunnel and some shrubbery later is all it takes to arrive at the stream’s edge.

ROUTE MAP

HOW TO GET THERE?

⦁  By bicycle or scooter

It’s quite easy to get to Emerald Valley. A 30 minute scooter or 1 hour bicycle ride from Hualien City is all it takes. If you don’t want to take the fastest route, you can go through smaller cycling paths to see farmlands. It will make your trip much more scenic!

Head towards Mugumuyu Tourist Information Center, go past the center, and continue until the end of the road, where you can park your bicycle, scooter, or car. From there, you will find a smaller road leading you to the tunnel head. Take it. This is where the trail begins.

WHAT TO BRING?

  • Water
  • Snacks
  • Flashlight
  • Swimming suit
  • Towel
  • Dry clothes
  • Waterproof bag
  • Camera

⦁  By bus:

Take the bus to Mugumuyu (Tongmen station), and ask the driver to let you off just before he turns left to the bridge. If the driver refuses, just get off at Tongmen station, and go back on foot to the head trail, as explained above.

The bus takes approximately the same amount of time, but it doesn’t run very often. Also, the bus does not go past Liyu Lake either. It departs from Hualien Station and makes a few stops until it finally arrives at Tungmen, which is the last stop.
